Message from Christopher

Last Thursday was my first Ski Local day, and I really enjoyed seeing so many students out on the slopes! Chasing after them was definitely a highlight of my week.

I also really appreciate the feedback we have received from families thus far on my recent letter to the community; it is both helpful and important to keep talking through this topic. Many comments have been broadly appreciative and encouraging; some have illuminated specific concerns and important questions.

Here are a few follow-up notes that may be helpful as we continue to navigate forward together.

  • For many years, TEA did not have any financial reserves. We were fortunate to be able to build up a modest sum over the last several years. As we seek to pivot from a young school to an institution of permanence, doing the hard work of effectively utilizing our reserves to give us time to weather the inevitable enrollment fluctuations is part of the process.
  • This year's Annual Giving Campaign demonstrated two key things: 1) the broad-based support of all facets of our community is strong and indicative of our special communal desire to see TEA thrive. 2) Our base of support is widening, is a bit less dependent on a few large gifts and sustained by a breadth of support at all levels. This is a healthy and important trend that signals increased sustainability over time.
  • We are working hard to keep our eyes on the horizon and proactively plan across multiple years, rather than solely reacting to the challenge of the moment. Using recent trends data (new enrollment history, retention patterns, costs, etc.) allows us to build and grow more confidently. While there is always a degree of uncertainty in life, thoughtful planning will help us narrow the range of this unpredictability and plan for a vibrant future.

Thank you so much for your input, and keep it coming. You can email me here, or schedule a call or meeting here. TEA has always been a community school of families and faculty striving to shepherd the mission for one and all!

Cheers,
Christopher

P.S. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Northstar Resort ice skating party tomorrow night!

Intensives invite curiosity, creativity, and risk-taking

Intensives are a dynamic and much-loved part of life in our Middle School and High School. They are designed as a space where students can try new and exciting academic experiences, dig deeply into areas they may never have explored before, and engage in learning that looks and feels different from their core classes.

They give students the opportunity to learn alongside peers from different grade levels, build cross-grade relationships, and work with teachers they may not otherwise have in their schedule. This cross-pollination of ideas and relationships is a powerful part of what makes Intensives so special.

Offerings change each year, keeping the program fresh and responsive to both student interests and faculty passions. Each semester, students select one Intensive, allowing them to explore a topic that genuinely excites them.

This semester, our High School offerings include Engineering, Art, Music, Psychology, and Yearbook. In Middle School, students can choose from the Light Lab, Music, Art, and Entrepreneurship.

We love watching students light up as they discover new interests, challenge themselves in unfamiliar spaces, and build connections across grades. Intensives are a meaningful reminder that learning is exploratory, joyful, and deeply engaging.

Enrollment Agreement Update

We’re excited to share that we are transitioning to Finalsite as our new enrollment and billing management system, designed to create a more streamlined and supportive experience for our families.

As part of this transition, Intent to Re-Enroll forms will be sent by January 30 and are due by February 10, and enrollment contracts will be distributed in late February.

This updated timeline allows families greater clarity, transparency, and support throughout the enrollment process. More details and guidance will be shared soon!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Celebrating Our Grandparents & Special Friends

Each year, we are excited to invite Grandparents and Special Friends onto campus to enjoy a peek into our unique and special program.

On Friday, May 15, from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m., your child’s Grandparents or Special Friends are invited to have lunch with board members, leadership team members and student ambassadors. Afterward they are invited to attend class as a guest of their TEA student.

We end the day on the field in a collective demonstration of our character values, with gratitude and student performances.

Please forward this Save this Date to anyone you would like to invite on your child’s behalf and share this RSVP link with them.

Oliver Blumberg, class of ‘26

TEA is proud to celebrate Oliver Blumberg, Class of 2026, who was recently recognized by Dream Volunteers as one of two recipients of their 2025 Legacy of Service Award. This honor reflects Oliver’s long-standing commitment to service, leadership, and advocacy rooted in care for both people and the planet.

Over the years, Oliver has consistently shown up for his community, serving multiple terms on TEA’s Student Advisory Board and participating in service-learning experiences in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Vietnam, and Ghana. Across cultures and continents, he has approached this work with humility, curiosity, and a genuine desire to contribute meaningfully.

Oliver traces his passion for service back to his first trip to Costa Rica. Experiencing a new landscape, a significant cultural shift, and strong connections with people there sparked something lasting.

“Most importantly,” he shared, “I made an impact, and I wanted to continue to do that.”

That experience inspired him to return and deepen his engagement year after year.

He sees this work as closely aligned with TEA’s values.

“TEA cultivates students who are global citizens and change-makers,” Oliver reflected. “This summer service work aligns perfectly with that and has really contributed to my development in that way.”

His journey exemplifies advocacy in action through learning, listening, and thoughtful participation.

When asked what advice he would give to other young people considering service work, Oliver was clear.

“Absolutely do it,” he said. “It gives you an unparalleled sense of perspective about the world, and I don’t think there’s much that’s more important right now.”

We are grateful for Oliver’s leadership and the way he embodies TEA’s commitment to character, advocacy, and global citizenship. His work reminds us that service, when done with care and humility, can create lasting impact
