Letter from Christopher

Dear, CommuniTEA!

As my tenure as Interim Head of School comes to a close, I want to express my deepest gratitude for this remarkable community. While my time at TEA was shorter than originally anticipated for wonderful and important reasons, it has been an absolute privilege to witness the growth, curiosity, courage and joy of our students across every grade level.

Thank you for welcoming me so warmly and for your steadfast partnership throughout this year. Together we navigated important decisions, faced challenges with honesty and optimism, and continued the important work of strengthening TEA’s foundation for the future.

This progress has been a true collective triumph. Families, faculty, staff, leadership and the Board of Trustees have each played an essential role. What has impressed me most is your passion for the TEA mission and your commitment to helping every student become the truest version of themselves. I am incredibly grateful to have served and led alongside all of you.

I step away with absolute confidence in what lies ahead. TEA will be guided by an exceptional leadership team: Jessa, whose vision and commitment to teaching and learning will continue to strengthen our academic program; Courtenay, whose passion for community, philanthropy, and enrollment will help the school continue to grow and thrive; and Annie, whose thoughtful stewardship and operational leadership will support our systems that allow this great work to happen every day.

Thank you again for allowing me to be a part of this chapter in TEA’s story.

I hope to find future opportunities to be of service to this community; please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to returning one day to see the continued growth of the students, families, and school community that I have come to admire so deeply.

Have a fantastic summer!

Warmly,
Christopher

Summer Learning Beyond TEA

As another remarkable school year comes to a close, we are proud to celebrate several TEA students who will spend part of their summer pursuing highly competitive academic and leadership opportunities across the country. These programs are designed for students with exceptional curiosity, initiative, and potential, and admission often requires extensive applications, essays, recommendations, interviews, and demonstrated academic achievement.

Sophomores Aaron Drury and Hope Maranda were selected as part of a cohort of just 35 students nationwide for the Emerging Rural Leaders Program, a collaboration between the University of Chicago and the University of Southern California. Through lectures, discussions, projects, and mentorship, they will explore leadership, entrepreneurship, behavioral science, and economic development while learning how to address challenges facing rural communities.

Junior Abbie Caufield was selected as a Junior Herpetologist participant for the International Herpetological Symposium in New Mexico. Her application included a 1,500-word essay, cover letter, and recommendations highlighting her passion for conservation and natural history. The program provides young scientists the opportunity to learn directly from leading herpetologists and connect with peers who share a love of reptiles, amphibians, and environmental stewardship.

Junior Emmett Osborne was admitted to COSMOS at the University of California, San Diego, one of California's most selective STEM summer programs. Emmett will participate in an intensive four-week residential program focused on biodiesel and renewable resources, working alongside faculty, researchers, and fellow students in advanced laboratory and research settings.

These opportunities reflect both the hard work and dedication of our students, as well as the confidence to pursue ambitious goals beyond the classroom. We congratulate Aaron, Hope, Abbie, and Emmett and look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return in the fall.
