The 2nd-Annual Great Truckee Pumpkin Race Was a “Smashing” Success

The TEA community put together an amazing race and games area bringing early Halloween cheer to all.

Truckee is still talking about the Great Pumpkin Race that took over the west end of town on Sunday. There were a dozen heats of racer pumpkins, plus a dozen carnival-style games and interactive projects in the activity village. More than 60 pumpkins duked it out for supremacy and bragging rights, not to mention $500!!

Pumpkin races had some very tricky factors this year including human reaction time, lane differences, lack of instant replay, and referee interpretations. It was apparent that next year our referees will need a high-speed camera placed at the bottom of the course to help with replays as some were just too close to call with bare eyes.

It was exciting, fun, and engaging for kids of all ages. The younger kids enjoyed the activity village and the high school volunteers already can’t wait to help out at next year’s event. TAP would like to give a big shout-out to the parents and high school students who volunteered to make it such a smashing success! The TEA community put together an amazing race and games area bringing early Halloween cheer to all.

The event was hosted by TEA and the Truckee Dance Factory. It was sponsored by 34 North, CA Tile & Stone, Carr Long Real Estate, Property Radar, Raley’s, Tahoe Mountain Fitness and Totally Board.
