After School Club

Rock Band Club

Plug In and Rock Out!

Do you play electric/acoustic guitar or bass? Keyboards? Drums? Horns or strings? Sing? Or would you like to start? Back by popular demand, participating students (and their fans) will continue to rock and roll all school year.

Instructed by David Zimmerman and Justin Eubanks, two talented and accomplished musicians who are expert music teachers too. Justin Eubanks is a national performer, talented multi instrumentalist and – most importantly – enthusiastic, patient and thoughtful music teacher with extensive experience working with kids. He’s taught music since he was in high school, offers one-on-one music lessons and is a multilingual speaker (English, French and Spanish).

Dave feels his skill instead lies in bringing groups together, finding their strengths, workshopping their weaknesses and teaching them how to make each other – and therefore the entire group – sound its best. Leveraging experiences coaching bands with “Bandworks,” “The Pick SF” and the Freight & Salvage’s “Take the Stage” program; managing stages for multiple events and festivals; and coordinating the weekly Truckee Community Bluegrass Jam – Dave has created incredible musical experiences for TEA rock band participants over the years complete with collaborative jam sessions and live performances.

Club practices will happen once a week for six – eight week blocks, with live performance possibilities during the school year, like at Celebration of the Arts and more. Each rock band’s focus will be to work up a two to three song set of music. Individual members will find their musical strengths, hone instrumental ability, work through band challenges and collaborate to create their best performance.

Skill on an instrument is less important than enthusiasm to learn. Club will try to accommodate all levels from intermediate student musicians taking private lessons down to beginners. There’s no better time to start rocking out than right now, with this awesome club offering.

Details

Who / Experience: Rock Band After School Club is designed for students in 4th to 12th grade. Skill on an instrument is less important than enthusiasm to learn. Club will try to accommodate all levels from intermediate student musicians taking private lessons down to beginners.

When (timing): Bands will meet once a week from 3:00pm to 4:30pm in 6 – 8 week blocks. Band members / practice days will be assigned based on experience, grade, instruments played/interested in, musical preferences and student/instructor schedules.

Where: Tahoe Expedition Academy (practices Rock Band / Music Cottage)

Capacity: Bands will be formed based on experience, instruments played/interested in, musical preferences and student/instructor schedules with a goal of 5-6 members per band. We will do our best to place anyone interested into a band but may be limited at the discretion of the instructors (diminishing returns to extra electric guitars, limited parts in rock songs, 3 drummers just won’t work!).

Survey: We will do our best to place anyone interested into a band, but may be limited based on instruments (3 drummers just won’t work) and scheduling. Fill out THIS survey as early as possible for the best opportunity.

What to Bring: Students are encouraged to bring a snack to eat between dismissal and beginning of rehearsal, hydrate too. Rock Band has a limited number of well setup 3/4 and full size guitars and basses as well as a keyboard and drum set.

Price + Registration: $225 for ~8 weeks of band practice. Ideally participants attend each connected 6-8 week session to ensure the best possible rock-n-roll experiences!

  • Spring Sessions (8): Week of April 8th through week of May 29th, 2024 (days TBA by band). Complete above survey as step #1. Confirmed days will be scheduled on our school calendar.

Scholarships – It’s our goal to ensure that programs are available to every enrolled student and family – program costs should not deter participation. To ensure this, Tahoe Expedition Academy offers need based financial assistance for Athletics and Activities programming.
