Creating Public Art For the Greater Good

What is the greater purpose of public art?

How do murals reflect culture in our local community?

How can I contribute to the aesthetics of a shared community space?

The goal of this one-week intensive project was to is to immerse our students in the world of public art and create a small mural for our campus representing the spirit and mythology of TEA. In preparation for the mural, students had the opportunity to view murals around the city of Reno, meet public artists, and meet with staff from the Nevada Arts Council to explore how public art contributes to community, communicates messages, and transforms spaces. Finally, students worked together, partnering with the Truckee Roundhouse to plan, build and create a small mural for our campus in Martis Valley.
