Update: Virtual Silent ART Auction Benefiting Keep Tahoe Blue Raises $1000!

Our teachers and students raised nearly $1,000 through our virtual auction for Keep Tahoe Blue!

Our high school intensive titled Sculpture & Intercepting Waste Streams set off this semester to use art to do good for the environment. With the COVID-19 curveball, the class adapted and pivoted quickly to creating artwork that could be auctioned off for a good cause. Thanks to their hard work and adaptability, they raised nearly $1,000 through our virtual auction for Keep Tahoe Blue. Chrissy Braud, thank you for re-purposing the auction platform for this student-driven fundraiser.

Alchemy is defined as the process of taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary, sometimes in a way that cannot be explained. Ancient alchemists were said to turn base metals into gold.

13 TEA high school students and our art teacher Charlotte Semmes had been collecting and transforming waste materials found in their homes during this “shelter-in-place” into art. Our CommuniTEA then helped us continue this cycle of alchemy by turning our sculptures into gold (well cash) by bidding on the sculptures. 100% of the sculptures were sold and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to KEEP TAHOE BLUE to help clean up this beautiful place we call home.

Please take a look at our artwork attached below! And thank you again to our CommuniTEA comprised of teachers, parents, students and friends for your participation! If you won an item, the artwork will be delivered to your doorstep by students themselves within the two weeks!

Thank you for giving creative confidence to these young artists, fulfilling their desire to give back to their community, and helping them chip away at a problem they have studied in depth.
